Read Time:2 Minute, 44 Second

The Witcher (Henry Cavill) and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) are back on Netflix today (Friday 17th December), testing in on Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) after her departure at the end of season one, during the Battle of Sodden Hill, and giving a plethora of monsters.

There’s more good news for fans of The Witcher: Season 2: it won’t be the end of the series. In reality, a third season was announced during Netflix’s TUDUM event in September 2021, months before the second season was broadcast.

The Witcher Season 3 release date

Season 2 of The Witcher will debut on December 17, 2021, as revealed at the WitcherCon live webcast on July 9. Before the first season has even premiered, Netflix acquired the comedy for a second season in November 2019. The eight-episode season began filming in early 2020 in London, with a 2021 premiere date scheduled. Season 2 of The Witcher, as well as most other film and television projects, has been placed on pause. Filming, on the other hand, started in August, with rigorous respect to hygiene and safety regulations.

The storyline of The Witcher Season 3

Emperor Emhyr var Emreis (Bart Edwards) was revealed at the end of Season 2 of The Witcher, confirming that he is Ciri’s father, who was previously thought to be dead. Emperor Emhyr is hell-bent on finding Ciri, for reasons unknown, but it’s probable that it’ll be due to her abilities as a result of possessing Elder Blood. Following the loss of their queen Francesca Findabair’s (Mecia Simson) infant, the Elves have turned against the Northern Kingdoms, which will undoubtedly play a major role in Season 3. In the conclusion, Geralt and Yennefer assisted Ciri in escaping the Voleth Meir, and the White Wolf begged the wizard to teach his ward magic so that she might learn to manage her abilities. The Wild Hunt, a swarm of elves out to capture Ciri, was briefly seen in the Season 2 conclusion, and they will almost certainly return in some manner in Season 3.

The characters in  The Witcher Season 3

Our three has finally formed a family unit, replete with a cute singing bard, at the heart of the story. They aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

  •     Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia)
  •     Anya Chalotra (Yennefer)
  •     Freya Allan (Ciri)
  •     Joey Batey (Jaskier)

Season 2 of The Witcher saw a huge increase in the number of characters in the cast. Major characters have been shifted around and stronger dangers arise as The Continent approaches an all-out fight. The wizards are straining to come to any type of consensus on how to continue as Nilfgaard and the elves’ relationship becomes shakier. Mimi Ndiweni (Fringilla), Media Simson (Francesa), Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz), and MyAnna Buring (Tissaia) are all expected to come back for season two.

The reappearance of Bart Edwards as Emhyr, the leader of Nilfgaard, who reveals as the actual antagonist of the series at the end of Season 2 will, of course, be the most significant addition to Season 3. We first encounter him as Duny, the knight Geralt saved and the father of Ciri, in Season 1. Duny/Emhyr, long supposed to be dead, is looking for his daughter and the power she wields.
