India has recorded Thursday 54,069 cases and 1,321 deaths due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19), taking care of work and the number of deaths at 30 082, 778 and 391 981 respectively, according to the update from the Union’s Ministry of Health at 8am. Total recoveries reached 29,063,740 after 68,885 people were discharged from the hospital over the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health update showed. Daily recoveries continued to exceed new infections for the 42nd consecutive day.
Active cases decreased to 627,057 and represent 2.14% of the workload.
As many as 1,859,469 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24 hours and cumulative figures reached 397,832,667, the Indian Council for Medical Research announced Thursday.
The number of Thursday cases is 3,221 more than Wednesday, when 50,848 cases have been recorded. However, deaths Thursday are less than 37 years of Wednesday when 1,358 people succumbed to viral disease.
Although daily cases and deaths in India are tapered, the country is now in gross spread of the Delta Plus variant, also known as “AY.1” variant or B.1.617.2.1.
Forty variant cases have been reported in India so far. The Ministry of Health Union said Wednesday that the variant was “observed sporadically” in Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh. Apart from these, Jammu and Kashmir and the southern Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states also reported AY.1 variant cases.
Secretary of Health Rajesh Bhushan wrote a letter to the main secretaries of Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh, asking them to take immediate confinement. BHUSHAN said that the variant of Delta Plus was found in the districts of Bhopal and Shivpuri of Madhya Pradesh, Ratnagiri and Jalgaon districts of Maharashtra, and the districts of Palakkad and Pathanamthitta Kerrala.
“You are invited to take immediate containment measures in these districts and clusters, including the consideration of crowds and the melee of people, generalized tests, quick trafficking, as well as a priority vaccine coverage,” said the secretary health in the letter.
A total of 301,626,028 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 disease so far, of which 248,224,925 received the first dose and the remaining 53,401,103 received doses, according to the Ministry of Health. On total vaccinations, nearly 6.5 million people have been inoculated over the last 24 hours.
