Taliban Commend India for Sending Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan

The Afghan Taliban said on Friday they had accepted the supply of new drugs from India, because the United Nations warned that the condition of strong winter exacerbated the serious humanitarian crisis faced by millions of Afghans.

“The Islamic Emirates thanked India for Humanitarian Assistance and Cooperation,” Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in a local language tweet after the Kabul Airport Authority received aid package. Mujahid uses the official name of the new Taliban government.

The Indian Foreign Ministry noted in the statement that Friday’s delivery was the third batch of medical assistance “consisting of two tons of essential life-saving drugs” and said it was part of New Delhi’s humanitarian assistance which was ongoing to Afghanistan.

India has delivered half a million doses of covid-19 vaccine and 1.6 tons of medical assistance to Kabul through the World Health Organization. It has promised to supply more drugs and food granules in the coming weeks.

“India stands committed to continuing our special relationship with Afghans and gives them humanitarian assistance,” said the ministry.

New Delhi also promised to send 50,000 tons of wheat to Afghanistan and requested the help of neighboring Pakistan by allowing transportation through its territory. Islamabad approved the request of New Delhi in November, and two rival countries reported to sort transportation modalities.
