Russia Accuses Ukraine of Torturing Prisoners of War
Russia said on Tuesday that they were investigating the torture of Russian soldiers who were detained in Ukraine and were released as part of this new exchange with Kyiv.
The Russian Investigation Committee, which investigated the major crimes, said in a statement that it was “verifying the fact of inhuman treatment of Russian army prisoners in Ukraine”.
Last week Moscow and Kyiv each exchanged 144 war prisoners – the biggest exchange since President Vladimir Putin sent troops to Ukraine on February 24.
According to his statement, one of the troops said that Ukraine medical officers treated him without anesthesia and that he was “beaten, tortured with electricity” in captivity.
Another injured Russian soldier, whose legs was amputated, said he was beaten badly and accused a Ukraine medical officer of stabbing his wound, the statement said.
The testimony of the released Russian army is an example of “Geneva Convention Violations about war prisoners,” said the investigation committee.
