Malaysia to procure 18 Tejas jets from India; US, Australia, Indonesia show interest

The government told parliament on Friday that Malaysia bought 18 TEJAS Jet Temporary US, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, Indonesia and the Philippines also showed an interest in getting a Light Fighter (LCA).
The government said, “Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (Hal), PSU Defense under the Ministry of Defense, responded to requests for information received from the Malaysian Royal Air Force (RMAF) in February 2019 for LCA class aircraft.
In a written reply to Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for the Ajay Bhatt defense said, “Furthermore, in October 2021, responding to the request of proposals issued against the tender issued by the Malaysian Royal Air Force for 18 fighters in the coach – Light Combat Aircraft Light (FLIT -LCA ) and offer the LCA Tejas Twin Seater variant. “
The government has taken several policy initiatives in recent years and brought reforms to encourage original design, development and manufacture of defense equipment in the country, thereby expanding production.
Notification of three ‘positive indigenization lists’ of a total of 310 service items and two ‘positive indigenization lists’ of 2,958 items from the Defense Public Sector Business (DPSUS), which will have an embargo on imports outside the schedule shown to them.
