Don’t think reference to Jammu and Kashmir at UNGA useful or helpful: India on Turkish President’s remarks
India on Thursday said references to Jammu and Kashmir at the UN General Assembly (Unga) were useless or useful and that the problem needed to be resolved bilaterally in accordance with the Shimla agreement.
I don’t think references to Jammu and Kashmir at Unga are useful or useful,” said Spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi, in response to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s comments about Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to Unga who was taking place in New York on Wednesday, the Turkish President said, “India and Pakistan, after establishing their sovereignty and independence 75 years ago, they still have not established peace and solidarity between one another. This is unfortunate. We hope and pray that fair and permanent peace and prosperity will be established in Kashmir.
Responding to his comments, Bagchi said, “Regarding Jammu and Kashmir, our position is very clear. This problem needs to be resolved in the Shimla agreement and bilaterally and also in a conducive atmosphere that is free from terrorism. I don’t think references to Kashmir in Unga are useful or useful.
Erdogan has also swept the Jammu and Kashmir edition in 2019, during the address at the 74th session general debate from the UN General Assembly.
Apart from the resolution adopted (by UNSC), Kashmir is still being surrounded and eight million people are trapped in Kashmir,” he said.
