China has quoted concerns over Indian infrastructure projects as one of the reasons behind its military buildup in Ladakh. Now, the Beijing government has announced to build a new highway through Aksai Chin to increase economic productivity. On July 1, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang announced a plan where Beijing would build 461,000 km highway and highway in 2035.

Last week, Beijing released a new area of the area where the national highway will be built. Two new highways planned to trigger concerns in New Delhi – G695 and G684.

The proposed highway G695 will connect Lunzhe County in Tibet with Mazha in Xinjiang. However, we do not have the right route from the planned highway. But a popular science blogger claims that the G-695 will pass the Depsang Plains, Galwan Valley, Konga Pass, and Pangong Tso. The new highway will pass closer to the actual control line (LAC) than the existing G-219 highway, which connects Tibet with Xinjiang.

The bridge that is being built in Pangong Tso will be part of the G695, according to Blogger Science with more than two million followers in Weibo.

Priority must be given to open the national border highway such as G219 and G331, so that it can achieve the basic deletion of unrelated and delayed parts; Continue to promote the construction of strategic backbone parts from Xinjiang and become Tibetan, and improve the quality of highway G318 Sichuan-Tibet, “said the document ‘National Road Network Planning’ of the Beijing Government.

Another new highway that will pass through the strategic area is the G684. This highway will connect the city of Mazha in Xinjiang with Khunjerab Pass on the Border of China and Pakistan.G219 is a Chinese highway that passes Chin’s Aksai. When finished, the G219, G695 and G684 will connect the large plots of Tibetan and Xinjiang with a higher range than the Karakoram plateau on the border with Pakistan. The proposed highway will connect existing networks with strategic locations that allow greater connectivity between these areas through the connecting road system network.

Beijing always has concerns about relying on G219 as the only arteries that connect Tibetan with Xinjiang.

China’s construction plan has a major implication for India because the current stand-off is likely to continue and place the prospect of the settlement that is negotiated through the ongoing talks.
