In a surprising incident highlighted the atrocities under the Taliban regime, a woman was killed and two others were injured after security forces opened fire at the Kandahar examination post on February 19. According to the source, the Taliban opened fire on a pedicab which allegedly did not stop. at the checkpoint in the city. Three victims reportedly out of shopping for food when their pedicab was blown by police inspection on Saturday afternoon.
The incident has triggered a massive anger with a member of the woman who died brought her body to the governor’s office. Bring the deceased’s body in the coffin through the streets, local residents demanded justice from the authorities.
Despite the promise to ensure the ‘moderate’ rule this time, the Taliban continued to function as a pseudo colony, failing to ensure basic rights for women. After fading Kabul and assuming control in August 2021, the extremist group promised to enable education and work for women, but now it has banned women from educational institutions and work. In fact, Taliban Education Minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani previously stated that the reason behind the closure of the university in Afghanistan was a shared education. The number of female journalists in Afghanistan has decreased by 50% and all steps have been taken by terror groups to minimize the role of women in the public and social fields.
Increasing voices to inequality, some Afghan women have since taken to the road to protest education that demands for girls, reopens the Ministry of Female, and work for women in senior government positions. However, in the midst of this, women continued to be arrested arbitrarily, while others disappeared.
Last week, 29 women and their families were detained by the Taliban. Heather Barr, Director of the Human Rights Watch Association for Women’s Rights, states that every loss describes one of the most serious Afghan problems today, which is a lack of law.
